United Nations World Oceans Day 8 June
World Oceans Day
Cook Island
Ocean Celebration
About the Day
A day of ocean discovery for the whole community
World Oceans Day is held on 8 June every year, designated by the United Nations to celebrate the ocean and push for its protection. It is the biggest day in our calendar.
Our celebration combines a morning survey at Cook Island with an afternoon of community activities: underwater photography, reef sounds, family activities and our community conservation awards.
It is also when we launch the Cook Island Ocean Report Card — a plain-language summary of what a year of community monitoring has told us about the health of the reserve.
One day a year, the whole community gets in the water together.
